Jakarta (B2B) - Direktorat Topografi TNI AD (Topad) menggelar lomba orienteering di Bumi Perkemahan dan Graha Wisata (Buperta) Cibubur, Jakarta pada Selasa (14/4) menyambut HUT ke-69. Lomba orienteering diikuti sekitar 200 atlet orienteering, yang berasal dari satuan-satuan TNI AD, mahasiswa dan pelajar SLTA.
Ketua Panitia HUT ke-69 Topad 2015, Kolonel Ctp Ibnu Fatah mengatakan orienteering salah satu cabang olah raga di alam bebas yang populer dan digemari. Bagi kalangan penggemarnya, orienteering merupakan cabang olah raga bersifat rekreatif, yang menggabungkan kemampuan-kemampuan fisik yang prima, penguasaan medan yang baik serta mental bertanding yang kuat.
"Atlet dituntut memiliki ketiga kemampuan tersebut secara berimbang, tidak boleh pincang. Oleh karena itu tidak ada jaminan, atlet yang fisiknya lebih kuat akan selalu keluar sebagai juaranya," kata Ibnu Fatah kepada pers di Jakarta, Selasa.
Dia menambahkan, atlet orienteering diharuskan berlari secepat mungkin sesuai dengan urutan titik-titik kontrol (control points) supaya tidak terdiskualifikasi. Tiap atlet dibekali peta dan kompas untuk membantu mencari titik-titik control secara berurutan. Juaranya ditentukan oleh atlet yang mampu menempuh route sesuai urutan titik-titik kontrol dengan waktu tercepat.

The competition committee chairman, Colonel Ibnu Fatah said orienteering is one of the sport outdoors. For its fans, orienteering is a recreational sport, which combines physical abilities are excellent, the mastery of the terrain, and strong mentality.
"Athletes are required to have three abilities are balanced, so that not only rely on the physical superiority," Ibnu Fatah told reporters on Tuesday.
He added, orienteering athletes must run fast to follow the order of control points in order not to be disqualified. Each athlete equipped with a map and compass to help find control points sequentially. Champion is determined by the athlete who is able to travel the route in order of control points with the fastest time.
