Jakarta (B2B) - Basuki "Ahok" Tjahaja Purnama, Jakarta deputy governor plans to submit the monorail construction project to PT Transjakarta, if PT Jakarta Monorail (JM) is unable to implement the mass transportation project.
"If PT JM states its inability to build the Jakarta monorail project, we will hand it over to PT Transjakarta," Ahok stated at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.
According to him, the license to build the monorail was given to PT JM because Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo did not want the work on the project to stop midway.
"We are trying all possible means to avoid the monorail mega project from stopping midway. Whoever wants to carry on the construction project, we will give the license, including to PT JM," Ahok noted.
He explained that the Government of Jakarta Special Province (DKI) has reached a new agreement with PT JM, the investor and developer of monorail in the capital city.
"The point is that we want to make sure if PT JM rejects the new agreement that we have made, the company may resign from the monorail construction project," Ahok remarked at the Jakarta City Hall on Thursday.
According to him, two new requirements have been incorporated in the cooperation agreement that has been submitted to the company.
Ahok elaborated that the first requirement entailed the DKI government giving a three-year deadline to PT JM in order to complete the construction of one corridor of the monorail project.
"If the company fails to complete the construction of one corridor in three years, all monorail pillars and other structures that have been erected will become the property of the Jakarta Special Government," Ahok emphasized.
He further added that the second requirement made it compulsory for the company to give a bank guarantee, amounting to five percent of the total investment of the monorail project, to the DKI Government.
Again, he explained that if the company failed to complete the project, the bank guarantee will also become the property of the Jakarta government.
