Jakarta (B2B) - Kehidupan demokrasi di Indonesia terancam lantaran tiga pilar demokrasi sudah rusak. Legislatif, eksekutif dan yudikatif sudah rusak dan rakyat tinggal berharap pada pers, yang tergolong masih sehat meski terancam oleh kepentingan politik dari para pemilik modal.
Mantan Ketua Mahkamah Konstitusi (MK) Mahfud MD mengharapkan para wartawan tetap mempertahankan idealismenya untuk menjaga kehidupan demokrasi. Namun pers jangan hanya mendukung demokrasi prosedural, juga demokrasi substansialnya agar kehidupan demokrasi tidak membahayakan masyarakat.
"Kalau dilihat dari empat pilar demokrasi, yang sehat hanya pers. Legislatif dan eksekutif sudah rusak, yudikatif juga busuk luar biasa," kata Mahfud saat memberi sambutan pada pertemuan Ikatan Jurnalis Televisi (IJT) di Jakarta, Rabu (26/6).
Dia tidak menampik fakta menjelang Pemilu 2014 terkait upaya sejumlah pihak untuk ´menjerat´ wartawan dengan iming-iming uang, bahkan ada yang ´memelihara´ wartawan. "Banyak yang seperti itu."
Menurut Mahfud, selain memelihara wartawan, ada juga orang yang membeli berita. Bahkan, orang yang tak punya perusahaan pers pun menyiapkan dana khusus untuk pers dengan besaran sekitar Rp 400 miliar.
