SKANDAL lima gol bunuh diri dalam pertandingan PSS Sleman dan PSIS Semarang menjadi sorotan sejumlah media internasional, antara lain dua koran terkemuka Inggris, The Guardian dan Daily Mail.

Sementara itu, The Guardian menyebut skandal itu sebagai upaya pengaturan skor.  Koran terkemuka Inggris menyebutkan bahwa sepak bola Indonesia sudah diguncang oleh skandal pengaturan skor serupa di masa lalu.

Guardian merujuk pada skorsing seumur hidup terhadap Mursyid Effendi oleh FIFA pada 1998 setelah sengaja menciptakan gol ke gawang sendiri saat Indonesia menghadapi Thailand dalam Piala Tiger.

Lain halnya dengan Daily Mail, dalam tayangan video dalam lamannya, menyebut lima gol bunuh diri yang tercipta dari kedua tim Indonesia itu sebagai kesengajaan.

Di bawah cuplikan video yang diambil dari laporan sebuah stasion televisi Indonesia di lamannya itu, Daily Mail menuliskan keterangan mengenai ada kejadian aneh di Indonesia pekan ini ketika lima gol bunuh diri tercipta pada sebuah pertandingan yang berakhir 3-2.

"Kedua tim diduga berusaha kalah pada pertandingan itu demi menghindari bertemu dengan sebuah tim," tulis Daily Mail.

A MATCH in the Indonesian second tier descended into farce at the weekend as five own goals were scored in an attempt to avoid a meeting with a club thought to be backed by local mafia.

The showdown between PSS Sleman and PSIS Semarang was played behind closed doors at the Stadion Maguwoharjo in Yogyakarta after violence marred a recent fixture in the Indonesian Soccer League.

With the winners due to face Pusamania Borneo FC in the semi-finals, it appeared that both were desperate to avoid that fate as players from both sides took it in turns to score in their own net. YouTube footage shows both goalkeepers making half-hearted attempts to stop them, with PSS Sleman eventually coming out 3-2 winners.

The CEO of the Indonesian League, Joko Driyono, has already opened an investigation into the match, with players threatened with long-term suspension if found to have broken the rules.

Indonesian football has been tarnished by match-fixing allegations in the past, with Mursyid Effendi given a life ban by Fifa in 1998 after he scored a deliberate own goal for Indonesia in their group stage match of the Tiger Cup against Thailand.
