THEY may be known the world over, but The Rolling Stones got to play their first gig in Macau on Sunday night.

The legendary rock band took to the stage at CotaiArena, where they were greeted by over 10,000 fans at the sold out gig.

And amongst the crowd were VIP guests including Chinese screen star Zhang Ziyi, Hollywood actor Stephen Baldwin, as well as Chinese rocker Wang Feng and local musician Kenny Bee.

The Stones are currently on their Asia-Pacific leg of their tour, and stopped off in Macau - one of the two Special Administrative Regions of the People´s Republic of China – for the one-night-only show.

This is the first time in a decade that Sir Mick Jagger, 70, Keith Richards, 70, Ronnie Wood, 66, and Charlie Watts, 71, has graced the shores of the People’s Republic of China, having performed in two shows at Hong Kong’s Harbour Fest in 2003.

VIP tickets weren’t cheap though going for $15,000 each to get a spot in the Tongue pit, where revellers get a 360-degree view of the mouth-shaped stage, the South China Morning Post reports.

Former member Mick Taylor joined the band for three songs, including a 10-minute version of Midnight Rambler, where he performed a guitar solo.

The Stones also performed Get Off of My Cloud, which was voted for by their fans on the band’s website and Facebook page.

The band arrived in Macau after playing three dates in Tokyo, housing 150,000 Japanese fans making it the largest venue on their 2014 On Fire Tour.

The CotaiArena is becoming a bigger spot on the musical map of the world since its opening in 2007.

Rihanna and Justin Bieber performed at the venue last year, and event organisers will no doubt be hoping to secure even bigger names for 2014.

‘We made history Sunday night by bringing the one-and-only Rolling Stones to Macau,’ Edward Tracy, President and Chief Executive Officer of Sands China Ltd., told the Macau Daily Times.

‘Welcoming a band as celebrated, loved and internationally acclaimed as the Rolling Stones is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and we and Macau are very privileged to be able to host one of their touring shows.’
