Jakarta (B2B) - Tingkat konsumsi susu masyarakat Indonesia paling rendah di kawasan Asia. Berada di bawah Malaysia dan Filipina yang mencapai 22,1 liter/kapita/tahun. Thailand sebanyak 33,7 liter.kapita/tahun dan Vietnam 12,1 liter/kapita/tahun. Sementara India yang tertinggi karena sudah mencapai 42,08 liter/kapita/tahun.

"Tingkat konsumsi susu di Indonesia baru mencapai 11,9 liter dari target 20 liter per kapita per tahun. Padahal susu merupakan bahan pangan dan komoditi strategis subsektor peternakan, sebagai sumber protein hewani yang penting bagi pemenuhan gizi masyarakat," kata Pelaksana Tugas (Plt) Direktur Jenderal Pengolahan dan Pemasaran Hasil Pertanian, Haryono kepada B2B usai memperingati Hari Susu Nusantara 2013 di Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, Selasa (28/5).

Menurutnya, susu sangat penting bagi peningkatan kualitas sumber daya manusia dan memiliki nilai ekonomis tinggi. Tingkat konsumsi yang rendah akibat masih rendahnya produksi susu nasional yang baru mencapai 26,6% dari kebutuhan nasional."

Haryono mengakui, meskipun produksi susu meningkat dari tahun ke tahun, namun belum mampu mengimbangi permintaan susu dalam negeri yang mencapai 1,5 miliar liter per tahun.

"Sebanyak 67 persen kebutuhan nasional masih diimpor, karena peternak lokal hanya mampu menghasilkan susu sebanyak 500 juta liter per tahun," ungkap Haryono.

Guna mendorong kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya mengkonsumsi susu sekaligus meningkatkan pendapatan peternak serta peningkatan industri susu nasional, sejak 2009 lalu, pemerintah menyelenggarakan peringatan Hari Susu Nusantara.

Haryono memimpin kampanye Hari Susu Nusantara 2013 di Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), Selasa (28/5) bersama sekitar 500 murid sekolah dasar di DKI Jakarta.

"Hari Susu Nusantara 2013 merupakan penyelenggaraan yang kelima, dengan puncak acara akan dilaksanakan pada 1 Juni 2013 di Bukittinggi, Sumatera Barat," kata Haryono yang didampingi Sekretaris Direktorat Jenderal Pengolahan dan Pemasaran Hasil Pertanian, Yazid Taufik di TMII Jakarta, Selasa (28/5).
