Kepala BPS Suryamin menambahkan bahwa defisit perdagangan Juli 2013 mencapai US$2,31 miliar, sementara defisit kumulatif tahun berjalan dari Januari sampai Juli 2013 tercatat mencapai US$5,65 miliar.
Defisit neraca perdagangan terjadi karena defisit neraca minyak sebesar US$1,86 miliar dan defisit komoditas nonmigas sebesar US$0,45 miliar.
Jakarta (B2B) - Trade deficit in July 2013, which reached US$ 2.31 billion, is the highest deficit in history, both as monthly and as year-to-date (January to July) deficits.
Sasmito Hadi Wibowo, Deputy Minister of Statistics and Service at the Indonesia Statistics (BPS), said the trade deficit in July was higher than deficit in June of US$ 0.85 billion due to higher consumption and weaker exchange rates, resulting in higher imports value.
The government is asked to resolve structural problems that make the trade deficit continue to widen. The problems include large population growth and increased purchasing power.
Suryamin, Head of BPS, explained that the July 2013 trade deficit reached US$ 2.31 billion, while the current year’s cumulative deficit from January to July 2013 stood at US$ 5.65 billion. Deficit occurred because of increasing imports to meet growing demands in the recent fasting month. In August, imports would not decline drastically as most homecomers still need fuels.
"The possibility of reduction will be felt in September as the government will reduce fuel imports," Suryamin said. The deficit of trade balance is occurred because of oil balance deficit amounted to US$ 1.86 billion and non-oil commodity deficit of US$ 0.45 billion.
Total trade volume surplus was amounted to 42.87 million tons, with a trade volume of 1.34 million tons of oil and gas deficit, and the non-oil trade volume in July 2013 recorded a surplus of 44.21 million tons.
