New York (B2B) - Presiden Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono menegaskan militer menghadapi tantangan yang terus berubah seiring perkembangan lingkungan dan teknologi serta sejumlah faktor lainnya.
"Tantangan tidak akan pernah mudah dan sama. Teknologi mengubah strategi dan doktrin militer," kata Presiden Yudhoyono di hadapan 1.000 kadet Akademi Militer Amerika Serikat, West Point, Selasa WIB.
Presiden mengatakan anggota militer saat ini selain harus mempersiapkan diri pada pertempuran konvensional namun juga harus siap menghadapi pertempuran inkonvensional.
Ia mengatakan, perang inkonvensional yang harus dihadapi antara lain operasi anti serangan dan perang melawan terorisme yang lebih sulit dan kompleks.
Para personil militer, tegas dia, kini harus menghadapi musuh yang dipengaruhi oleh ideologi, kepercayaan, militansi, dan persepsi yang hampir berbeda dengan masyarakat kebanyakan. Itulah yang membuat peperangan masa kini tidak mudah.
Saat yang bersamaan, tambah dia, pembangunan membuat perubahan lingkungan. Hubungan internasional saat ini lebih dinamis dibandingkan sebelumnya, kata Yudhoyono.
"Keberimbangan geopolitik terus berubah. Sejumlah sumber konflik baru timbul adalah kompetisi terkait sumber daya alam, khususnya pangan dan energi," papar Presiden Yudhoyono. (Ant)
New York (B2B) - Indonesian president outgoing, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono delivered a general lecture on the role of the military in a changing world at the United States Military Academy in West Point on Monday.
Addressing around one thousand US military cadets, President Yudhoyono noted that the challenges being faced by the military continue to change in tandem with the developments in the environment, technology, and numerous other factors.
"The challenges will never be easy and the same because technology can change the military strategy and doctrine," the Indonesian head of state remarked.
He explained that at this point in time, the members of the military should prepare themselves for both conventional and unconventional wars.
"The unconventional battle include, among other things, anti-attack operations and the war against terrorism, which is more complicated and difficult," he affirmed.
Yudhoyono pointed out that todays military personnel should be ready to face the enemies who are influenced by different ideology, belief, militancy, and perception.
"That is why the battles today are not easy," he pointed out.
The president stated that concurrently, developments have changed the environment, and the international relations today have become more dynamic than before.
