"Dia berhasil memerankan karakter Chris Kyle," kata Hall.
Motifnya masih belum jelas, namun diperkirakan Routh menderita gangguan stres pasca-trauma.
Film drama perang ini meraih sekitar US$90,2 juta dan rekor tertinggi pemutaran perdana.
Secara keseluruhan, film ini mencetak enam nominasi Oscar, termasuk Film Terbaik, Aktor Terbaik, Skenario Adaptif Terbaik, Penyunting Film Terbaik, Tata Suara Terbaik, dan Tata Padu Musik Terbaik.
HE'S JUST BEEN nominated for a Best Actor Oscar for his role as Chris Kyle in American Sniper, portraying the deadliest sniper in American history.
So it comes as no surprise that Bradley Cooper went to great lengths in order to get in character.
In order to gain more than 40lbs in just a few months, the 40-year-old actor was forced to eat four times the amount recommended for an average person.
The American Hustle star recently told Vanity Fair he was motivated to bulk up naturally, having been sober for 10 years after a period of drug and alcohol abuse.
He has since lost the weight, with a diet consisting of dishes like pumpkin soup while rehearsing for his current Broadway role in The Elephant Man, as stated in the Vanity Fair piece.
Bradley also practiced shooting a rifle with the help of Navy SEAL sniper Kevin Lacz, who previously served with Kyle.
‘He actually proved himself to be really good,’ Hall said. 'The second day, in the morning, he went out there and was consistently hitting 800-yard targets the size of a teacup.’
Bradley laboured to capture the late sniper’s persona, working with a vocal coach twice a day and watching hours of footage featuring Kyle, who died in 2013.
‘He managed to find this essence of Chris Kyle,’ Hall said.
Kyle became the most successful sniper in American military history, claiming 255 kills over six years, with 160 of them officially confirmed by the Pentagon.
On February 2, 2013, Kyle met his own death in the way he had killed so many others.
That day, on a shooting range in Texas, former Marine Eddie Ray Routh shot and killed Kyle and his friend, Chad Littlefield.
The motive remains unclear, but it is thought Routh was suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.
The war drama earned around $90.2 million and set a record for the highest-earning January opening.
Overall, the film has scored six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Editing, and Best Sound Mixing.
