THE MONACO Grand Prix is one of the most glitzy sporting event on the planet, meaning the annual race becomes a celebrity hotspot each and every year.
This year's event is no exception, with a number of recognisable faces trackside for Saturday's qualifying session, which saw Ferrari duo Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel secure the front two spots on the grid.
Fresh from Manchester United's Europa League glory on Wednesday night in Stockholm, manager Jose Mourinho was in town and took in the qualifying session from the comfort of the Red Bull garage.
He watched as the two Red Bull drivers, Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo, managed fourth and fifth respectively, and also found time to catch up with West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle.
Gayle posted an image of the two together on Instagram, simply with a football emoji alongside it, having previously posted images of himself in the principality earlier in the week.
Mourinho and Gayle are not the only sporting stars in Monaco for the big race, with former Moto GP world champions Casey Stoner and Jorge Lorenzo also in town, as guests of Ferrari.
Cyclists Mark Renshaw and Mark Cavendish had a picture taken with Jenson Button, while model Kate Upton was also there in the Red Bull area.
Radamel Falcao has enjoyed a successful year with Monaco, who won the French title and also reached the last four of the Champions League, and has not had far to travel in order to take up his position as a guest of Sauber.
Prince Albert II and Princess Charlene of Monaco are regular attendees at their home event and were present for Raikkonen's qualifying success, with the latter taking in the action from the Williams paddock.
British royalty was in attendance too, with Zara Phillips, the Queen's granddaughter, taking in the event with her husband, former England rugby star Mike Tindall.
Presenter duo Ant & Dec are often referred to as TV royalty and were also in attendance for qualifying.
The assembled celebrities, and those watching from the many luxury yachts moored in the bay, watched on as Lewis Hamilton endured a miserable day as he was only able to qualify 13th-fastest.
But the Mercedes driver's struggles were of no consequence to Raikkonen, who was delighted with his display as he secured pole for the first time in nine years.
‘Obviously it’s the best place to start from tomorrow,’ said Raikkonen. ‘Qualifying was good, not perfect but I was pleased with the car.
‘Things worked well and I felt good, I was able to push. It was quite nice and straightforward.
