KAISAR Jepang Naruhito naik tahta pada Rabu, sehari setelah ayahnya yang berusia 85 tahun, Akihito, turun tahta.
Dari balkon yang menghadap ke halaman Istana Kekaisaran di Tokyo, Naruhito (foto kiri dengan istrinya Permaisuri Masako) berterima kasih kepada puluhan ribu simpatisan baik (kanan atas, kanan bawah) yang mengucapkan selamat kepadanya.
Diperkirakan 65.000 orang dilaporkan datang untuk merayakan (inset kiri, antrian untuk menemuinya).
Dia berkata: "Saya berharap kesehatan dan kebahagiaan Anda, dan dengan tulus berharap bahwa negara kita mengejar perdamaian dunia bersama dengan negara lain dan akan berkembang lebih lanjut."

JAPAN´S Emperor Naruhito ascended the Chrysanthemu m Throne on Wednesday, a day after his 85-year-old father, Akihito, abdicated.
From a balcony overlooking the Imperial Palace grounds in Tokyo, Naruhito (pictured left with his wife Empress Masako) thanked tens of thousands of well wishers (top right, bottom right) for congratulating him.
An estimated 65,000 people reportedly came to celebrate (left inset, the queue to see him).
He said: ´I wish for your health and happiness, and sincerely hope that our country pursues world peace hand in hand with other countries and will develop further.´
He was joined by other members of the royal family including Princess Tomohito, Princess Kako, Princess Mako and Princess Kiko (right inset) but Naruhito´s father, Akihito, and his wife Michiko, were not present to avoid concerns about interference with the serving emperor.
