Jakarta (B2B) - Most of internet users in Indonesia still consider "distributed denial of service" (DDoS) attack as common thing instead of a threat.

“Company or site owner do not realize when internet traffic gets fully loaded or soar high, suddenly the server goes off. Then they restart it and it keeps happening,” said Technical Consultant of Fortinet Indonesia, Daniel Aroman Hadi, after press conference of FortiDDoS launching event in Jakarta on Thursday.

DDoS is a cyber attack which requests an access to a site in a big volume and constant duration. The attack causes certain web users’ internet connection to get slow or goes off because the internet route or application server is too crowded.

Daniel said that the number of attacks in Indonesia is the 4th biggest number in the world with 8.6% out of total cyber attack.

“There are three kinds of DDoS attack, the first one attacks bandwith, the second one attacks server, and the third one attacks application or extension program,” said Daniel.

Manual detection on the attack, Daniel said, can be known if data traffic increases into 70% and it happens beyond normal hours, and even for a whole day.

“DDoS is not only outsiders attacking sites, but also our computers attacking other websites because they have been infected by Trojan, worm, or malware,” he said.

In the event, Fortinet launched series of products to prevent DDoS attack, namely FortiDDoS-100A, FortiDDoS-200A, and FortiDDoS-300A.
